Festive Postboxes

As the nation prepares to post their annual Christmas cards and presents, Royal Mail is today launching four festive postboxes to encourage early posting this festive season.

The postboxes – three of which are for letters and cards, and the other a parcel postbox – have been decorated as beautifully wrapped Christmas presents.

This year, the boxes will be ‘digitally activated’ – meaning that customers using them can scan a QR code contained within the design of the boxes on their mobile phones, and watch a short festive message from Father Christmas.

The four boxes are located in busy hotspots* in Brighton, Wrexham, Aberdeen and Bangor, and will be launched from today. They will be in place throughout December.

As always, Royal Mail recommends that people post their cards and parcels early. Last UK posting dates for 2nd Class mail is Friday 18th December, and Monday 21st December for 1st Class mail. For Special Delivery, it is Wednesday 23rd December.

Mark Street, Head of Campaigns at Royal Mail said: “This year more than ever, it is important to let loved ones know that they are in your thoughts. As always, delivering Christmas is our absolute priority at Royal Mail – particularly at the end of what has been a challenging year for many of us. In the process, we are thrilled to bring some of our special Christmas postboxes to more cities around the UK to help spread a little bit of festive cheer.”

Royal Mail is also supporting the Let’s Talk Loneliness campaign, which will be providing useful and practical help this winter for those experiencing loneliness and those keen to help. In particular, the Royal Mail will be encouraging people, from the 7th December, to send letters and Christmas cards to friends, family and especially anyone that they may have lost touch with. Where possible, all mail delivered by Royal Mail that week will feature a special Let’s Talk Loneliness postmark[1]
