American Airlines Promotes Stephen Neuman to Vice President of Global Government Affairs
WASHINGTON, D.C. ― American Airlines announced today the promotion of Stephen Neuman to Vice President of Global Government Affairs. Neuman is returning to American following a brief leave of absence, during which he managed the Midwest region of the Biden for President campaign.
Neuman will resume his responsibilities leading American’s engagement at the federal level with Democrats in Congress. In addition, he will now take the helm of the airline’s state and local government affairs efforts, a role previously held by Chuck Allen, who is retiring after 47 years with the company. In this capacity, Neuman will be responsible for overseeing the team charged with advocating for the company’s public policy priorities in states and municipalities across the country.
“Steve is an indispensable member of the American Airlines team,” said Nate Gatten, Senior Vice President of Global Government Affairs for American. “Highly regarded in all corners of Washington for his tenacity, his command of the issues and his good nature, he’s earned his sterling reputation by approaching his work with the utmost integrity, driven always by what’s best for our team members and our customers. We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Steve back, and we have the highest confidence in him as he takes on this expanded and important role.”
Prior to joining American in 2017, Neuman managed all aspects of the Hillary for America and Democratic Coordinated Campaigns in Michigan in 2016 and served as the chief of staff to the Obama for America campaign in North Carolina in 2008. Neuman has served in senior roles for three governors in three different states: chief of staff to Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo; chief administrative officer to Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley; and senior adviser to North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue. He spent the early part of his career on Capitol Hill, serving as a legislative assistant to two members of the Senate Commerce Committee, focused on transportation issues.
Neuman received his law degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife and son.
