IHG partners with JA Worldwide bring to help young people in Paris
build skills and experience in hospitality
IHG® (InterContinental Hotels Group), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, and Entreprendre pour Apprendre, member of Junior Achievement Worldwide, came together at the Crowne Plaza Paris – Neuilly to host IHG’s ‘First Look’ Event in France.
A class of 24 students, aged between 16-19, from the Protectorat Saint Joseph School spent the day exploring the opportunities offered by the hospitality industry. Activities included job shadowing, where they experienced a typical working day as an executive chef, HR manager and operations director, and a group activity to develop and present a new hotel brand dedicated to young people.
After announcing its partnership with JA Worldwide (Junior Achievement Worldwide) in September 2019, IHG has focused on developing a programme for local students to gain skills and insight into the hospitality industry. IHG ‘First Look’ events showcase the breadth of roles within the sector and provide young people with hands-on experience working in a hotel. The combination of classroom tutorials and practical work provides students with a deeper understanding of what a career in hospitality involves. Since the start of the partnership, IHG has held a series of ‘First Look’ events together JA Worldwide networks around the world, including in London, Berlin, Atlanta and Dubai.
Michael Wierling, Human Resources Director, Southern and Northern Europe, IHG commented: “We’re delighted to bring our partnership with JA Worldwide to France and welcome students to the Crowne Plaza Paris – Neuilly. IHG is committed to engaging with young people on the unique and rewarding opportunities presented by the hospitality industry and our IHG First Look events are a perfect way to do this. We’ve had great feedback from the students and really hope this experience encourages them to think seriously about a career in hospitality.”
Asheesh Advani, CEO, JA Worldwide, commented: “Working with IHG gives JA the opportunity to engage our students with the hospitality industry, which we know offers rich and varied opportunities in the world of work. Just like IHG, JA is a global organization in more than 100 countries, and this sets us up well for what will be an inspiring and fruitful partnership that helps create pathways to employability and job creation in the tourism sector.”
The year-long partnership between IHG and JA Worldwide will see more than 750 students supported in a total of nine markets worldwide, including US, Canada, Mexico, UK, France, Germany, UAE, Japan and China.
