SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434, “SoftBank”) today announced that for the first time it was selected as a component for inclusion into FTSE Russell’s FTSE4Good Index Series, a world-leading environmental, social and governance (ESG) index, and the FTSE Blossom Japan Index, an ESG index focused on Japan-based companies.
For investors around the world, ESG practices are a key consideration when making investment decisions. Based on its concept of “a world where all things, information and minds are connected,” SoftBank is working to realize a sustainable society. SoftBank’s thorough promotion of ESG initiatives, measures to mitigate climate and labor practices were highly evaluated by FTSE Russell, resulting in SoftBank’s inclusion as a component in the two indices.
The FTSE4Good Index Series and FTSE Blossom Japan Index are comprised of companies selected by FTSE Russell, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group and a global index leader that provides benchmarking, analytics and data solutions for investors worldwide. Japan’s Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF), the world’s largest public pension fund, has adopted the FTSE Blossom Japan Index as a benchmark for passive ESG investment management. For inclusion into the FTSE4Good Index Series and FTSE Blossom Japan Index, companies must satisfy key ESG criteria and demonstrate strong CSR and sustainability practices. The FTSE4Good Index Series and FTSE Blossom Japan Index are both revised annually in accordance with FTSE Russell’s evaluation results.
Guided by its corporate philosophy, “Information Revolution — Happiness for everyone,” SoftBank will aim to increase corporate value while promoting sustainable practices and resolving social issues through its corporate activities and business activities that leverage the strengths of its advanced technologies.
