Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Otsuka) has been recognized for a range of initiatives promoting employee participation in sports with certification as a Tokyo Metropolitan Government Sports Promotion Company for the sixth consecutive year. For FY2020, Otsuka was also selected from among certified companies as a Tokyo Metropolitan Government Sports Promotion Model Company (Model Company) for the first time.

Limited online distribution of POCARI/fresh exercise sessions

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Sports Promotion Company certification program was conceived to recognize companies that implement quality initiatives to encourage and support employee participation in sports. Among certified Sports Promotion Companies, those that carry out initiatives with a particularly significant social impact are selected as Model Companies. Otsuka was recognized as a Model Company (Practical Division) for implementation of practical initiatives to promote participation in sports in FY2020.

Otsuka has consistently provided opportunities for exercise at work and at home. In response to COVID-related restrictions beginning in 2020, Otsuka introduced limited online distribution of exercise sessions normally conducted in the workplace to encourage participation by employees engaged in remote work. The company also sponsored walking rallies using a smartphone app and continues to develop initiatives adapted to new lifestyles to support employees and their families in maintaining health and wellbeing. These and other initiatives implemented in FY2020 were recognized with Tokyo Metropolitan Government certification as a Model Company (Practical Division) for the first time.

Initiatives to Encourage Participation in Sports Implemented in 2020

The Otsuka Pharmaceutical Declaration on Health was initially issued in January 2017. To coincide with the appointment of Makoto Inoue as President and Representative Director in March 2020, the Declaration was updated to confirm the company’s stance on employee health-related issues. Believing that it is important for each and every employee to be able to work with vigor and good health, Otsuka implements a variety of initiatives including health seminars and exercise programs to promote understanding of health issues and encourage employees to take an active role in preventing illness and enhancing their own health.

Otsuka will continue to contribute to the health and wellbeing of people everywhere, including employees and their families.
