Tandem and #YouAreNotAlone

Stay home, stay safe is the motto many of us have been applying to our lives since Covid-19 lockdown measures began in March. However, the steady rise in instances of domestic and financial abuse since the adoption of these measures show that, for abuse survivors, home can now be an even more dangerous place.

Women’s Aid explains that domestic abuse can be defined as an incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening, degrading and violent behavior, including sexual violence. This definition can also include financial abuse: a perpetrator using or misusing money which limits and controls their partner’s current and future actions and their freedom of choice. In the majority of cases the role of perpetrator is undertaken by a partner or ex-partner, but also by a family member or carer.

Domestic and financial abuse is very common and it can happen to anyone. With this in mind, Tandem have committed to supporting the Government’s #YouAreNotAlone campaign to raise awareness for those affected by domestic and financial abuse.

If you are at home due to Coronavirus, then remember you can still get the support that you need – you are not alone! The National Domestic Abuse Helpline (0808 2000 247) is available for free, 24 hours a day and online chat services are also available through the Refuge website.
