Regional General Manager of Nippon Express’ East Asia Region named “Honorary Citizen of Xian” by Xian municipal government

Managing Executive Officer Tatsuo Sugiyama, Regional General Manager of the East Asia Region at Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President), was awarded the title of “Honorary Citizen of Xian” at a ceremony held by the municipal government of Xian, China on Monday, March 22, 2021.

“Honorary Citizen of Xian” is a title awarded to foreigners who have made significant contributions to Xian’s socioeconomic development. Mr. Sugiyama was the only Japanese national among the three persons granted the title this year and the first ever from the logistics industry.

Nippon Express opened a branch office of Nippon Express (China) Co., Ltd., in Xian in 2007 and established Nippon Express (Xian) Co., Ltd., in 2013, at which time the Regional General Manager of the East Asia Region also took up the post of senior international economic advisor to the Shaanxi provincial government. Nippon Express’ logistics business activities in Xian, including its China-Europe cross-border rail freight services departing Xian Station that were launched in 2018, have been highly acclaimed.

Nippon Express remains committed to expanding its logistics business in China and contributing to local communities through logistics.
