Washington D.C., 17 January 2020 – Three Hogan Lovells teams – Automotive, Privacy and Cybersecurity, and Sports and Entertainment – have been recognized for their outstanding work by winning places among Law360’s Practice Groups of the Year for 2019.
Now in its tenth year, Law360’s Practice Groups of the Year honors the law firms behind the year’s big legal headlines, including litigation and deals. This year the winners represented 85 law firms and included 182 winning groups across 38 practice areas. The winners were picked from almost 800 entries.
Our global Automotive and Mobility Industry Sector Group (ISG) (which won in the Transportation category), is led by Munich partner Patrick Ayad and enjoyed another landmark year in 2019. Among its many highlights were successfully advising Ford Motor Company in a US$2.6 billion investment by Volkswagen into Ford’s autonomous vehicle platform company, Argo AI (Argo), and advising Daimler on the creation of a joint venture with BMW to form Europe’s leading innovative mobility services business. The ISG covers all aspects of the automotive industry from cross-border M&A to litigation, IP and Class Actions defense, or the future of mobility evolution to autonomous, connected, electric and shared vehicles. As a result, manufacturers, suppliers and new mobility clients turn to us for effective advice, advocacy, and representation. Hogan Lovells has a global Transportation practice led by partner Latane Montague in our Washington D.C. office.
Our Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice was recognized for its work on multiple headline-grabbing matters. The global practice is co-led by partners Marcy Wilder in Washington D.C. and Eduardo Ustaran in London, and is a recognized leader in advising companies on how to best react to and prevent security breaches and privacy issues. Among the work recognized by Law360 was the practice tackling major breaches on behalf of Uber and Equifax, and our ongoing work helping advise major clients on breach prevention.
Partners Craig Umbaugh, Matt Eisler, and Mark Kurtenbach lead our Sports and Entertainment Practice, which was recognized following another banner year. We advised Mikhail Prokhorov on the sale of the Barclays Center and the majority stake in the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets to Alibaba co-founder Joe Tsai, in what The Wall Street Journal reported as the highest-value U.S. sports franchise transaction in history, advised Oracle on its investment in naming rights at the San Francisco Giants’ stadium, advised on the naming rights at Empower Field in Denver, home of the Denver Broncos, and advised Anschutz Entertainment Group, Inc. on creating ASM Global, a joint venture with Onex Partners to run the global venue management businesses of AEG Facilities and SMG.
