It makes sense to, wherever possible, avoid driving in flood conditions – you could be putting yourself in danger, as well as badly damaging or destroying your vehicle. But if you are caught in flood water, and you have comprehensive motor insurance, your insurer will pay any repairs, or, if necessary, the replacement cost of your vehicle. Following Storms Ciara and Dennis last year, motor insurers came to the aid of 8,000 motorists, making payments of £40 million to help drivers recover.
